β€‹β˜• THE FASHION PERSPECTIVE

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Fashion Needs People

Open Instagram and fashion looks deceptively simple. A beautiful dress. A perfect campaign. A designer at fashion week. A fabric draped across a moodboard. Everything looks effortless.

Spoiler: it isn't.

Behind every garment is a pattern maker. Behind every collection is a tailor. Behind every embroidered piece is someone who knows what the machine is supposed to do, and what to do when it decides otherwise. Behind every order is an operations team. Behind every customer is a sales person. Behind every digital storefront is someone making sure you can actually find what you're looking for.

That is why our biggest news this week is not a runway show. It's that MNIKS Purple is hiring.

β€‹β˜• BUILD WITH US

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

MNIKS Purple is growing across fashion sourcing, production, retail and digital commerce, and we're looking for people who want to work in fashion, not just love it. There's a difference.

🟣 Sales Assistants - people who make a customer feel helped, not hunted.

🟣 Operations Assistant - for the organised ones. The people who notice when something is missing, and remember to check the list.

🟣 Pattern Maker - for the technical minds who know a beautiful sketch still needs structure before it becomes something a person can wear. Fashion is art. There is also mathematics involved. Unfortunately.

🟣 Tailors - skilled hands to cut, stitch, fit, alter and finish the garment.

🟣 Embroidery Machine Operators and Digitizers - for those who know the right embroidery takes a piece from nice to "Wait. WHO MADE THIS?"

🟣 Social Media Intern - for the creatively online who know content is more than a pretty picture and "Shop now πŸ’•."

🟣 Fashion Editorial Assistant (Volunteer) - for the writers and storytellers who want a front row seat to the industry. Help shape the words behind The Purple Edit and the brand's editorial voice - Reply this email, we'd love to read your applications.

🟣 E-commerce Website & SEO Associate - because a beautiful product nobody can find is a problem. Help us get the right products in front of the right people.

β€‹β˜• ON THE BUSINESS OF FASHION

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Shein launched its long-awaited Hong Kong IPO this week, targeting a valuation of around $27 billion, well below the almost $100 billion it once commanded. By August 25, the IPO order book was already fully covered, with the company targeting up to $1.8 billion.

Whatever your opinion of Shein, the story is a reminder: fashion is capital, technology, manufacturing, logistics, retail, and jobs. The clothes are only one part of the equation.

Across Africa, the same opportunity is unfolding differently. Kenyan designers Bettydora Odhiambo and Neema Kinoti are among those selected to showcase at Africa Fashion Week London, another sign of African fashion moving into rooms where buyers, media, and retailers are paying attention.

The question isn't whether African fashion has talent. We know it does. The question is whether we have the people and infrastructure to build businesses around that talent.

That's the work we're doing one role, one hire, one skill at a time. Speaking of which, here's what's on the table this week.
